Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday that China is ready to work with the UAE to push the China-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during his meeting with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Wang stated that the UAE is a country in the Middle East with unique importance and influence, and that the development strategies of China and the UAE are aligned, the governance philosophies of the two countries are similar, and the economies are highly complementary, making the two countries natural friends and partners.
Wang pointed out that over more than four decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and the UAE have respected and supported each other. The bilateral relations have withstood the test of a changing international landscape and maintained sound and stable development.
He expressed China’s readiness to strengthen communication and coordination with the UAE, implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, continue to adhere to the original aspirations of the diplomatic relations, deepen mutual strategic trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and advance traditional friendship, in order to jointly work towards pushing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a higher level.
Noting that the second China-Arab States Summit will be held in China next year, Wang expressed his expectation for the participation of leaders of Arab states in the summit. He also expressed hope that, with the support of the UAE and other Arab countries, the summit will achieve positive results and elevate China-Arab relations to a new level.
For his part, Sheikh Abdullah said that over more than four decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the relations between the UAE and China have witnessed rapid development based on mutual respect and trust, with fruitful cooperation in various fields and deepening people-to-people friendship, making them a model for relations between countries.
Sheikh Abdullah stressed that the UAE firmly adheres to the one-China principle, resolutely supports China in safeguarding its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity and in achieving national reunification, and unequivocally opposes any foreign interference in China’s internal affairs.
The two sides also exchanged views on issues such as the situation in the Middle East region.
