Guangzhou-
The exhibition “Treasures of the Al Sabah Archaeological Collection from Kuwait” was officially opened last Wednesday under the joint patronage of the Guangdong Museum, the Chinese Cultural Relics Exchange Center, and Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah of Kuwait. The exhibition is being held in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province in southern China.
The exhibition brings together more than 200 archaeological artifacts provided by the Al Sabah family. These pieces vividly showcase the charm of artistic works and highlight dialogue among civilizations through ancient art, spanning the Mesopotamian region—historically encompassing the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers—and extending to the Silk Road.
In this context, Ma Lusha, the exhibition designer, stated that this exhibition, being held in China for the first time, features a large number of important exhibits, and that dozens of historical artifacts are being displayed to the public for the first time worldwide. She expressed hope that the Chinese audience would be able to experience the unique charm of these ancient artistic masterpieces.
For his part, Mohammed Khaled Ahmed Al-Jassar, Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters of the State of Kuwait, said during the opening ceremony that this journey is not only an artistic dialogue, but also a continuation of the long-standing friendly and cooperative relations between Kuwait and China. He added that this carefully curated exhibition fully demonstrates the historical value and artistic splendor of these collections, while also reflecting the rich and diverse historical heritage of both China and Kuwait.
Al-Jassar further noted that China and Kuwait will celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026. He expressed hope that this exhibition would serve as a new starting point for deepening cultural relations between the two countries through art as a shared language that transcends national borders and cultures, and that exchanges and ties between the peoples of both countries would continue to grow.
Meanwhile, Zhu Yue, Deputy Director of the Chinese Cultural Relics Exchange Center, said that the exhibition is not only a “cultural feast” but also a “bridge of friendship,” as it will further deepen people-to-people ties between the two countries, root the concept of friendship more firmly in people’s hearts, and inject warm and lasting cultural strength into the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The exhibition is scheduled to run until March 8, 2026.
